Hyndland Farm in the 1890s

A few years before the tenements were built ...

Looking north-west from 1 Princes Gardens, this photograph shows the low, dark buildings of old Hyndland Farm at the far left, roughly where Crown Road North now meets Hyndland Road. The whitewashed farm stands in what is now Prince Albert Road. At the far right is Hyndland Parish Church, and close by, the Georgian frontage of the original Hyndland Station.

Hyndland Road with its wooden fences and street lights is clearly visible running right across the centre, with the fields of Hyndland estate continuing down over the slope beyond.

Gartnavel Royal sits on the distant hill to the left, and the tall chimney in the middle belonged to Kelvinside electric power station.
