In March 1886 the North British Railway Company opened a short branch from the Stobcross Line to the new and rather grand Hyndland Railway Station on Hyndland Road. The design was intended to be in keeping with the nearby Kelvinside Estate which it served. This station later provided essential transport for Hyndland when tenement building started there in 1898.

In 1914, there were 30 trains each way, mainly to and from Airdrie and Hamilton. A few years before, there had even been two through coaches from London, bearing "King's Cross to Glasgow (Hyndland)" boards and conveyed by the 11.20 am summer express! The last passenger services were in November 1960, and the grand station building was soon demolished.
